WSF World Squash Team Championships open with spectacular ceremony

The 2024 WSF World Squash Team Championships are officially open following a spectacular opening ceremony at Hong Kong Football Club, the host venue for the championships.
This year’s World Squash Team Championships is the first to feature the men’s and women’s competitions together, leading to a record 195 players taking part in the annual event.
Those players, as well as members of the public and special guests including squash legends Sarah Fitz-Gerald, Jahangir Khan and Geoff Hunt, were treated to a fantastic curtain raiser, which featured an athlete’s parade, drum ceremony, lion dance and dragon dance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, WSF President Zena Wooldridge and Hong Kong Football Club President Nick Hunsworth welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked all who had made the historic championships possible.
The first ties of the 2024 WSF World Squash Team Championships take place at 10:00 (GMT+8) tomorrow, 9 December.

About the WSF World Squash Team Championships
The WSF World Squash Team Championships are contested annually and pit National Federation squads of four players against each other as they compete for the title of World Champions. The 2024 edition, which is taking place in Hong Kong, China, from 09-15 December 2024 and will be hosted at the Hong Kong Football Club, with the support of the Squash Association of Hong Kong, China.
This year’s championships will be the first to feature concurrent men’s and women’s events, with previous editions alternating between the two annually.
The WSF World Squash Team Championships is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps
enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.
